Michael D. Menichiello is a New York-based therapist who specializes in anger management, passive-aggression, couples therapy, addiction, LGBTQ issues and depression/anxiety. Coming from a diverse background in Film & TV early in his career, Michael is also a multi-award winning producer and author. He has an extensive roster of clients of all ages — from teens to adults — and he has more than 15 years of professional experience as a therapist. While his expertise lies in Depression, Coping Skills, any form of Addiction and Couples Therapy, he’s also highly skilled in issues like Adoption, Divorce, Co-Dependency, Behavioral Issues, Peer Relationships, Domestic Violence and Narcissistic Personality. He has a non-judgemental and non-critical approach when it comes to counseling, all the while maintaining a trusting relationship with his clients.

The Process of Therapy

Therapy can change and enrich our lives. It can also be a great means of support, guidance, and help with the “right” therapist. Finding a therapist takes some time, patience, and effort. You’ll be talking about difficult subjects, topics, and situations, so the “right” chemistry with your therapist is essential. Therapy is all about making you feel comfortable, safe and understood. You shouldn’t feel unaccepted or judged at and it is a very personal connection, and bond, with your therapist, that is fostered over the course of therapy.

You may have tried therapy in the past and it hasn’t been successful because of a lack of that bond with your previous therapist. I don’t consider myself to be the “expert” of your life, but I explore all options, point out discrepancies and reflect back to you what I am hearing. My job is to listen, and understand the world from your eyes; not mine. Being heard, feeling understood, and acknowledged can empower us to change and truly transform our lives.

Psychotherapy at its best.

As a therapist, I specialize in teens and adults who are trying to get to the bottom of their feelings and try to figure things out. I’m objective, non-judgemental and try to tell it like I see it; not always how you may see it or even want to see it. I also specialize in LGBTQ issues, anger management, passive-aggression, couples therapy, addiction and depression/anxiety.

A modern approach.

My approach is to truly listen to you and to see the world as you see it, feel it and experience it; not how I want you too. My specialties include LGBT issues, depression, anxiety, bipolar, grief/loss and relationship issues in addition to addictions and dependency, dual diagnosis, as well as those suffering through the addiction of someone they love.
